Technische Universität München is a leading German university in the fields of technology-oriented research. It was founded in 1868 and currently has 21,000 students and 4,500 scientific personnel. The “Lehrstuhl für Verkehrstechnik” (VT), “Chair of Traffic Engineering and Control” is part of the institute for transportation. Currently 23 researchers and 4 administrative personnel are employed at VTTUM with a focus on data analysis, modelling, control and management of both private and public transport. VT-TUM is involved in a large number of national and European research programs, including REACT and Com2React (Focus on safety analysis, risk prediction and environmental monitoring), SAFESPOT (Focus on safety applications via C2C and C2I communication), DIWA (Driver information and warning via Digital Audio Broadcast), FG3- Umfeld (Assessment of sensor systems for environmental road conditions), MOBINET (Traffic management in the greater Munich area), onVLS-Graz (online traffic state estimation for the city of Graz), (AKTIV-VM (process monitoring for online traffic modelling and information systems) and OFFENSIVE (Automatic congestion detection and travel time forecast). These and other projects are the basis for a profound knowledge on ITS and traffic flow modelling on a national but also an international level.
