AGH-UST is one of the best, most prestigious and modern Polish universities, achieving high positions is rankings of institutions of higher education. AGH-UST is a leading Polish university in the field of modern technologies, also being of high position on the international scale. Long and rich tradition is also a factor determining the University's popularity - AGH-UST has existed for nearly 90 years and during this time it has educated groups of the most required engineers in Poland. The total number of students is about 29 thousands, the number of staff being 3.800; the teaching and research staff 1.840 (at the end of 2006). The University, being a technical school, serves the science and industry through educating students, the development of academic staff, as well as research and development.

Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science

Scientific activity of the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science comprises both basic and applied research in nuclear physics, solid state physics and physics of the environment. In 2004, the number of scientific papers published in international journals was over 200. The Faculty contains 7 departments and employs more than 40 university professors (with habilitation). The Department of Applied Informatics and Computational Physics was established oon the basis of a group of theoretical and computational physicists with large experience and potential. The scientific research in DAICP is concentrated on theory and simulation of complex systems, with applications to magnetic, biological and social systems.
